Volunteer Spotlights

At Writers’ Exchange, our volunteers are the heart of everything we do.
We have a team of over 70 dedicated volunteers! Each month, we’re proud to spotlight one of the incredible individuals who help bring our programs to life—building confidence, inspiring creativity, and making a lasting difference for the kids and youth we serve.

Meet some of the amazing mentors who make our community so special!

Jeff (May ‘25)

Jeff has been involved in the Writers' Exchange community since 2020, and is closing in on a whopping 500 hours spread across our programs at 877, ¿uuqinakuuh, T-bird, and Xpey' as well as subbing at various sites whenever needed. He currently helps out with our monthly food pick-ups from the Vancouver Food Bank too! Jeff is an avid traveler and hiker, and is also a volunteer with Ryan’s Rainbow Emergency Food Outreach. We are so lucky to have you on our team, Jeff! Thank you for all you do.

Ryan (Feb ‘25)

Ryan joined us as a volunteer in 2019 & has since contributed over 500 hours to our programs! A true board game enthusiast, he’s introduced us to games like Go, Guillotine, & more. While you’ll definitely improve by playing with him, don’t expect him to go easy on you—he plays to win! When he’s not at WE, you can often find Ryan at Spartacus Books on Commercial Drive. Thank you, Ryan, for your consistency & reliability—you’re a cornerstone of our community!

Bowie (Apr ‘25)

Bowie started volunteering with us in September 2024 at Queen Alexandra with the Grades 1-3, and has since joined both our lunch programs at χpey̓ & Strathcona. They enjoy dance, binge watching the TV series Castle, and being a bubble tea aficionado... recommends trying a lemon green tea or black tea latte. Above all else, Bowie loves love! Thank-you Bowie for always bringing fun and enthusiasm to our programs, and for stepping up whenever we need an extra hand!
