Story & Quote Archive Builder

Location: Remote

Time Commitment: Flexible

Help us keep the magic of Writers' Exchange stories alive—and accessible!

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and self-motivated volunteer to help us organize the heart of our storytelling: the amazing quotes, photos, and anecdotes that come out of our programs.

As our Story & Quote Archive Builder, you’ll create and help manage a searchable spreadsheet of meaningful moments from our kids, volunteers, and program staff. This collection will be an essential tool for sharing our impact in grant applications, reports, and fundraising campaigns. You’ll help ensure that whenever we need the perfect quote or photo, it’s right at our fingertips.

This is a great opportunity for someone who:

  • Loves organizing and bringing order to chaos

  • Has experience with Google Sheets or Excel

  • Wants to support literacy and community in a behind-the-scenes way

  • Is curious about fundraising, storytelling, and nonprofit strategy

This role is flexible and remote—you can contribute from wherever you are, whenever works best for you!

Grant Writer

Location: Remote or In-office

Time Commitment: Flexible; approx. 4-10 hours per month

Duration: Ongoing, with flexibility as your schedule changes

We’re seeking a passionate and persuasive writer to join our team as a Volunteer Grant Writer. This is a great role for someone who wants to develop grant writing skills, gain real-world experience, and contribute to our mission. You’ll help tell our story in compelling ways to a range of funders who can support our impact. One week you might write a 5-page foundationapplication for $10,000, and the next week a short email to a local business requesting an in-kind donation. There are so many ways we seek support.

Food Bank Pick-Ups

Location: Remote

Time Commitment: Once per week, approximately 1.5hrs

Duration: Ongoing

We’re looking for a friendly and dependable volunteer(s) to help with our weekly food donation pick-ups from the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. You’ll need access to a vehicle, be comfortable lifting 10–20 lbs, and be available on Wednesdays or Thursday mornings for a pre-scheduled time slot. Each week, you’ll pick up donated food items and deliver them to our space at 877 Hastings, helping make sure the kids in our programs have the snacks they need to stay energized and engaged. This small but mighty task makes a huge impact—and we’d love to have you on board!

Location: In-Office

Time Commitment: Once per week, approx. 30–45 mins

Duration: Ongoing

We’re looking for a cheerful and organized volunteer to help us keep our food shelves stocked and snack-time ready! Each week, we receive donations and grocery orders to help fuel the kids in our programs—and we need your help to unpack, sort, and organize those tasty supplies.

You’ll help:

  • Unpack and sort food deliveries

  • Label and organize items in our kitchen space

  • Keep our snacks easy to find and ready for action in programs

  • Flag any low-stock items or surprises (“What is this mystery canned item?”)

This role is perfect for someone who loves keeping things tidy, and finds joy in making behind-the-scenes magic happen. You'll be working right out of our welcoming office space in Strathcona—bonus points if you’re a fan of stacking granola bars like Tetris.
